"Downton Abbey" (PBS, January 8)
Still basking in the glow of Emmy wins for Outstanding Movie or Miniseries (although it's neither), as well as writing, directing, Maggie Smith and a few technical things, PBS' beloved upstairs/downstairs period soap opera returns for its second season complete with all of the class struggle, unfulfilled passions and gnawing secrets fans reveled in the first time. But all is not the same at Downton Abbey. The first World War is in full swing and whether you're landed gentry or a lowly servant, nobody's life will be untouched. Fans of The Dowager Countess' one-liners, Thomas' scheming, Bates and Anna's unspoken love, Matthew and Mary's will-they-or-won't-they yearning and entails will not be disappointed.
