"Marvel's Agent Carter" (ABC, Jan. 6)
As Brit-born soldier Peggy Carter, Hayley Atwell was one of the many joys of "Captain America: The First Avenger." As the star of a Peggy Carter solo adventure included as a bonus on the "Iron Man 3" home video release, Atwell made clear that Peggy (first introduced in the comics waaaaay back in 1966) could carry her own stories. Now she'll get the chance with a seven-week, eight-hour series set to bridge the two halves of this "Agents of SHIELD" season, as we follow Peggy in her post-World War II life, constantly fighting to prove her worth to the sexist jerks she works with in the pre-SHIELD agency SSR. Atwell's a treat, Dominic Cooper's back in a recurring role as Howard Stark (along with James D'Arcy, Enver Gjokaj, Shea Whigham and Chad Michael Murray in supporting roles), and the first episode does a fine job of evoking the look and cinematic feel of the post-war period.
