24. "Anna Karenina"
In theaters: 2012 TBD
Director: Joe Wright
Starring: Keira Knightley, Jude Law, Aaron Johnson, Kelly Macdonald, Olivia Williams, Emily Watson, Matthew Madfadyen
Lowdown: An adaptation of Leo Tolstoy's acclaimed novel in which Anna (Knightley) falls for Count Vronksy (Johnson) and her own life starts to fall apart over her paranoia over his suspected infidelity.
Gregory Ellwood says: Wright has arguably made only one misfire, "The Soloist," and it was an admirable one at that. His other four films, "Pride & Prejudice," "Atonement" and "Hanna"," are near-classics. With this source material, a screenplay from Oscar winner Tom Stoppard ("Brazil," "Empire of the Sun," "Shakespeare in Love") and a stellar cast, expectations will be very high. In the world of prestige films, it's pretty much the definition of most anticipated.
