11. "The Hunger Games"

In theaters: March 23, 2012
Director: Gary Ross
Cast: Liam Hemsworth, Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Elizabeth Banks, Woody Harrelson, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Wes Bentley
Lowdown:
The big-screen adaptation of the wildly popular Suzanne Collins novel about a future where a central Capitol selects one boy and one girl from the twelve districts of Panem to compete in a to-the-death match on live television each year. Katniss Everdeen volunteers to prevent her younger sister from competing, and in doing so, kicks off a revolution.

Drew McWeeny says: The books are good solid pulp fun, and Gary Ross seems to have a bee in his bonnet about getting the films right. Jennifer Lawrence is due to blow up into genuine stardom, and this is the moment and the right role. The big question mark in the cast for me is Liam Hemsworth, whose brother Chris is already having his moment, and it'll be interesting to see if the family goes two for two this year.
