16. "The Dictator"
In theaters: May 11, 2012
Director: Larry Charles
Cast: Sacha Baron Cohen, Anna Faris, Ben Kingsley, John C. Reilly, B.J. Novak, J.B Smoove, Aasif Mandvi
Lowdown: Based loosely on a book by Saddam Hussein, which already makes this funny in a very dark and strange way, this "Prince and the Pauper" style story has been given the full treatment by the comedic brains behind "Bruno" and "Borat."
Drew McWeeny says: As much as we believe in Cohen as a performer and want to see him stretch and tackle projects like that long-gestating Freddie Mercury biopic or another collaboration with someone like Scorsese, this sort of big deranged character comedy is his bread and butter and what we'll always want to see him return to eventually. The trailer is good, but not great, but much of what makes Cohen funniest is context, and we have faith that he's got something special cooking to kick off this summer.
