Most Anticipated Movies at the 2013 Cannes Film Festival: 'Behind the Candelabra,' 'Only God Forgives,' 'The Bling Ring'
Gosling, Damon, Timberlake, Cotillard, Swinton and more
Director: Ari Folman
Stars: Robin Wright, Paul Giamatti, Harvey Keitel
Premiere date: 16 May
Why: Many were expecting “Waltz With Bashir” director Ari Folman's latest to show up in Competition, but the Directors' Fortnight opening slot it has is an auspicious one: last year, it went to eventual Oscar nominee “No.” Wherever it plays at the festival, however, nothing else in the lineup looks quite like it: the film finds Folman blending the rotoscope-style animation of his last film with live action for a purported sci-fi mindbender based on a story by Stanislaw Lem (“Solaris”). It promises a fierce role, too, for the resurgent Robin Wright, as an actress who agrees to let a study clone her image for deathless use. The images that have been released so far all carry a heavy 'wow' factor; if the film's as smart as it pretty, this could be a major sidebar sensation.
