Going dark in 'Frailty'
Like "Lone Star," this is a story about the legacies left from father to son, but it's a whole different kind of dark. We shouldn't be surprised that McConaughey is willing to go this far in a role, considering he appeared in a "Texas Chainsaw" sequel early in his career, chewing scenery as a member of the bloodthirsty family. "Frailty" is a really sad and fascinating movie, though, directed by Bill Paxton, and it is clear watching it that McConaughey has way more to offer onscreen than just the charming good ol' boy thing that marked many of his early roles.
