Sometimes 'Doctor Who' will just drop a bomb on audiences... and then never mention it again
Just how much of a Doctor can be chopped off immediately after a regeneration?
In "The Christmas Invasion," our newly regenerated Doctor gets his hand chopped off close enough to the regeneration that he can grow a new one. As we see later, he remains psychically attached to that hand which is kind of weird, but what concerns us more is the notion that he can regrow bits and pieces within 15 hours after a regeneration. How far does that ability go? It doesn't, we'd bet, extend to his head getting chopped off or to a complete second death during regeneration. But, say, could he lose everything below the waist and have it come back? Could all his appendages be removed? Why has this not even been attempted by another incarnation immediately post regeneration. There are, we think, times when it could have come in handy.
