As the heroes prepare to assemble, we look back on previous films
The 'X-Men' trilogy
'nuff said: Driven by Bryan Singer (who directed the first two and produced the third film, as well as subsequent spin-offs), the "X-Men" films proved that large hero ensembles could be translated into lean, action-packed hits that would satisfy both fans and casual audiences (well, at least the first two seemed to). Hugh Jackman's Wolverine character got his own film, while Singer oversaw this summer's prequel "X-Men: First Class."
World wide box office: "X-Men" = $296 million, "X2" = $407 million, "X-Men: The Last Stand" = $459 million
