That little red light can't be good
Hoover was a hugely controversial figure during his long tenure at the FBI, known to harass dissenters and social activists and use illegal methods to obtain evidence against his enemies. In 1950 at the beginning of the Korean War, he submitted a plan to President Truman that would have detained 12,000 Americans he suspected were involved in subversive acts against the U.S. government. Truman ultimately did not act on Hoover's recommendations.
