2. 'What Goes Around' (2006)
If not an actual sequel to “Cry Me A River,” it certainly is the song’s sympathetic cousin. The chart topper about betrayal is a gorgeously layered tune built around a simple guitar riff. The repetition, instead of seeming lazy, gives the mid-tempo R&B-influenced track a hypnotic, circular feel that never fails to draw the listener in. It’s one of Timberlake’s most compelling tracks.
