Becomes partial owner of New Jersey Nets and Barclays Center
Jay-Z joined the ranks of celebrities who own shares of sports franchises as reports revealed that he owned (hang on) 1/15th of 1% of the New Jersey Nets. While the actual fraction is small, his presence loomed large as he was the face of the basketball team’s 2012 move from E. Rutherford, N.J., to its home at Brooklyn’s sparkling new Barclays Center. Jay-Z even had a hand in redesigning the NBA team’s new uniforms. Plus, he celebrated the opening of Barclays by playing eight sold-out shows. He has since sold his stake in the Nets (for a reason revealed later in this gallery), but he retains his ownership of 1/5 of 1% of Barclays Center.
