Becomes the president and CEO of Def Jam
Retirement? What retirement? Jay-Z not only released two collaborative albums in 2004 but in December of that year was named president and CEO of Def Jam Recordings, which bought his remaining stake of Roc-A-Fella for a reported $10 million. It was a post he would hold for only three years, but under his tenure the label managed to launch the careers of top-selling acts including Rihanna and Ne-Yo. He would officially depart the position in January of 2008.
