Lazaro, Angela, Curtis, Candice and and more discuss their 'Idol' futures
Burnell Taylor of 'American Idol' interview
On making very personal song choices and his musical philosophy: "I always pick songs that are gonna tug on people's hearts, because I know that out there somewhere, there's somebody feeling the same way that I do, so I just think that it's very important to pick songs that are captivating."
On paying attention to the lyrics when he's singing: "I feel like if I'm not delivering a message, then what am I singing for? I want people to hear everything that I'm doing and everything that I'm singing about. That's very important."
And what is that message? "I want everybody to know that I'm an honest person and I'm the same as everybody. I treat everybody the same way. I know what people go through, so it's important for people for people to know that I'm honest and I sing with feeling and emotion."
On the "conducting" motions that accompany his singing: "I don't know. I think a lot of people don't understand that that helps the feeling and the emotions. To some people it's distracting, but for me it's comfortable. I'm not changing anything that I do. Some people gonna like it, some people not and I just have to come to the realization that everybody's not gonna live everything that I do. "
How he's going to keep up his vaunted weight-loss: "Lately I've been eating a tad-bit too much, but I'm about to get back on that track and just work hard."
Is there anybody else in the Top 10 he can convince to work out with him? "No. [He laughs.] I love my bros, but no. They lazy. "
