Best First Feature: "The Kings of Summer"
It's still unclear why Jordan Vogt-Roberts' wonderful "The Kings of Summer" couldn't find a larger audience on the art house circuit. Originally titled "Toy's House," this Sundance Film Festival premiere is a charmer on an epic scale. It features fantastic performances from its teenage cast and is surprisingly poignant for another entry in the familiar coming-of-age genre. Much of that credit has to go to Vogt-Roberts and the best place to reward him is in the Spirits' Best First Feature category.
