1. Best Picture: "The Grey"

Joe Carnahan's "The Grey" is still one of the year's best films (along with the sure-to-be-in-the-conversation "Beasts of the Southern Wild"). I still get a chill when I think of how cold and dark the emotions the film conjures are: it's the kind of movie that makes me want to stay home and hug my wife. It's also incredibly unique in the fray this year, fronted by an equally award-worthy leading performance by Liam Neeson. It has a snowball's chance of surviving the season, but I won't shut up about it any time soon. --Kristopher Tapley
