10. Best Costume Design: Eiko Ishioka, "Mirror Mirror"
Do I really need to make a written case for this, or will the picture to your left suffice? The costume design world lost one of its greatest artists earlier this year in Eiko Ishioka, a former Oscar winner for "Bram Stoker's Dracula." Happily, she left with one of her most spectacular screen credits still to come: her lavish, witty, oil-pastel wardrobe for Tarsem's daffy redesign of "Snow White" fuses Gothic fairytale tradition with Disney princess glamor, Asian warrior chic and Versailles decadence. A posthumous Oscar would be a touching career tribute, sure, but it would be richly deserved under any circumstances. --Guy Lodge
