New 'Lara Croft' Tomb Raider' shortlist: Megan Fox, Mila Kunis, Zoe Saldana

Who should replace Angelina Jolie in the franchise reboot?

Is the world ready for a new Lara Croft?

Is the world ready for a new Lara Croft?

When it was announced this week that GK Films had acquired the movie rights to the "Tomb Raider" franchise it immediately sparked speculation on who could replace Angelina Jolie who originated the role in two movies almost a decade ago.  Of course, while the mini-studio claims they are planning an origin story they didn't say Jolie wouldn't return and she has a relationship with producer Graham King having recently appeared in the company's hit thriller "The Tourist."  Still, it begs the question who could fit Jolie's shoes?  If anyone?  Check out this list of legitimate candidates and share your thoughts on who should play the global treasure hunter below.

  • the phrase "begs the question" is used in a story with a Dan Fienberg co-byline?!

dan Let's just say I didn't write that intro. And let's just say I didn't READ that intro. And let's just say now I'm gonna go in and FIX that intro.

dan Ben - You know what? I actually went back and read the intro and I dunno if Greg did it intentionally, but guess what? "Begs the question" is actually *kinda* used correctly.

Since nobody has said that Angelina Jolie *isn't* returning, this entire gallery begs the question of her needing replacement at all.

      I'm leaving it!

    • I guess I didn't even consider that it could be correct, since it almost *never* is. Thanks for clearing that up! I guess it just shows how much I should be trusting the HitFix team

No. I'm sorry but Jolie is more recognized as Tomb Raider than the game? One of the dumbest comments I've ever heard.

Megan Fox, really? She's barely an "actress."

Matt I must say, I doubt Fox could manage the English accent. For some unknown reason I get the feeling maybe Mila Kunis could, maybe, although I haven't seen any evidence to support this. I think they should probably just keep Jolie and redo everything else.

... Kunis is Russian, so I bet she can handle an accent.

Hendricks got to do a bit of action in her two episodes on "Firefly" and was reasonably convincing doing it. With the right production team, I think she could pull off the physical aspects of the part. On the other hand, I'd hate to see her dye her hair brown...

The smart pick would be Mila Kunis because the rebooted Tomb Raider game is going a Batman Begins type origin story and Mila has already played a young AJ in Gia.

As hot as Olivia Wilde is - she was the only good thing about TRON: We Waited 30 Years For This?!? - she's missing a couple of crucial assets for the role, even in the new toned-down shape.

Rhona Mitra is too old; Megan Fox can't act; Zoe Saldana is black (sorry, but race swaps won't happen with $150 million budgets on the line, as Donald Glover will tell you); the others are pipe dreams or crack pipe hallucinations.

Mila Kunis it is. Make it happen!

My pick is Mila too! She's the entire package. Sexy as hell and a very talented actress.
I don't want to say Megan Fox is a terrible actress. I just don't think she's ever gotten to play a well written character. Who knows what she could actually do. She's my second choice.

Kunis did play a younger Jolie - in the HBO bio-pic Gia. Would be one hell of a coincidence to see her play Croft too.

tabitoo Kunis looks just like Jolie as Lara in "The Book of Eli" At times I thought it was her. Just check out the images of Kunis while in that film. It's bizzar...the similarity. If not Kunis then my next pic would be possibly Emma Watson.

As much as I love Mila Kunis, who doesn't, right, I think she's too petite for the role.

What about Minka Kelly or Milla Jovovich?

I think that Mila Kunis would be the best for this part I can see her in the movie.

Angelina Jolie is still in her prime. She can still repraise her role as Lara Croft. In the Tomb Raider games Lara Croft is around 36 years old, Angelina is 36 herself not old. For example Harrison Ford repraise his role as Indiana Jones at age 60. Kingdom of the crystal skull was a diaster out of all of the Indiana Jones films. Holly Wood said that Angelina Jolie is too old to play as Lara Croft but said nothing about Harrison Ford being too old to play as Indiana Jones. Unlike Harrison Ford, Angelina Jolie doesn't need a stunt double to nearly all of her stunts. If they actually do replaces Agelina Jolie as Lara Croft than not only do they need an actress who looks & sounds like Lara Croft but can go through the same training regiments as Jolie did in the previous Tomb Raider movies. In short Jolie (36) can still reboot Tomb Raider again.

Rhona Mitra is perfect for the role of Lara Croft. She fit the bill very well since she's done modeling roles as Lara Croft in live-actions. Being a British she can speak the accents of Lara Croft very well. Unlike Angelina Jolie & Megan Fox she'll work & play the role of Lara Croft relatively less money than what those two want. Only thing left now is good box office hitting director in the new film. Since I heard that the writers of the new hit movie (Cowboys vs Aliens) are rebooting the Tomb Raider movie. Since Steven Speilburgs was the producer of Cowboy vs Aliens, its only natural to place Speilburgs as the director of the new rebooted Tomb Raider movie. Why because the guy directed the Jurassic Park movies plus the Indiana Jones movies with the exception of Kingdom of the Cystal skull not bad work I have to say. As a director Speilburgs's creditbility is way higher than Simon West & the director of the second TR movie. Don't know how money Speilburgs wants if he does choose to direct the movie.

Honestly I think Natalia Tena (harry potter/game of thrones) could do really well and looks the part of the game reboots younger Lara. dunno if she has enough star potential though...but still
