Known for: Tangling with CGI robots in the "Transformers" films and swinging through the jungle in "Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull."
In his favor: The "Transformers" trilogy proved that he can keep up with fast-moving effects work and super-sized action set pieces, although he (and the rest of the human cast) were often entirely overwhelmed and overshadowed. More importantly, he played Harrison Ford's son in "Crystal Skull." That would look pretty good on a job application for the role.
Against him: He's recently been shying away from blockbusters, focusing instead on more adult fare like last year's "Lawless," Robert Redford's "The Company You Keep," and Lars Von Trier's upcoming "Nymphomaniac." Plus, many fans seemed to dislike his presence in "Crystal Skull."
