Films with iconic and haunting images rule the year
8. The Spectacular Now
This moving coming of age drama breaks the traps of the genre by avoiding obvious cliche's and dating itself. Instead, it's a story about real people struggling with real pain. To be frank, director James Ponsoldt doesn't do melodrama. He makes it all as startlingly real as possible. Throw in two of the most underrated performances of the year by Miles Teller and Shailene Woodley (Kyle Chandler ain't bad either) and you've got an epic heartbreaker that sticks with you long after you've left the theater.
