Simply, the most moving picture of the year. Ava DuVernay's depiction of the true events surrounding the Selma-to-Montegomery marches of 1965 is a remarkable achievement. It's an independent film masquerading as a studio biopic with a breakthrough turn from David Oyelowo as Dr. Martin Luther King. Oyelowo doesn't really resemble him at all, but both he and DuVernay make you believe he's King. That is top notch moviemaking, people.
