This comedy smash is easily one of the top five things Chris Rock has done in his career so far. It's a dramedy that mixes laugh out loud moments that will quickly turn into Internet memes when the film is available for download, with a Woody Allen-esque romance that is as much a love letter to the New York comedy community as the city itself. Rock's script leaves room for commentary on reality star celebrity, the continuing difficulties of African Americans in Hollywood, said industry's relationship with the media at large, the affects of sobriety on a career, modern day romance and even the aging of a hip-hop culture. In theory there is so much going on that it shouldn't work, but Rock paces it like a master standup comedy routine. By the time it's over you just want more.
