Angelo Badalamenti's melancholy theme (initiated by that classic reverb-drenched guitar), coupled with David Lynch and Mark Frost's deceptively picturesque images of small town Americana, formed the perfect opening for the surreal soap opera. The short credits welcome viewers to Twin Peaks (Population: 51,201), while also providing an uneasy undercurrent that reflects the town's dark underbelly. For discerning viewers, primetime would never be the same.
