Which pigskin pictures made the play-offs?
10. 'Horse Feathers' (1932)
Football is, as George Carlin memorably put it, the most militaristic of all our sports, a regimented campaign of ground acquisition. It generally doesn't have room for the eccentricity of baseball, basketball or hockey. Try telling that to the Marx Brothers, though, as Harpo, Chico, Grouch and (to a much lesser extent, as usual) Zeppo turn a game of college football into pure anarchy, in a film so popular it put the four brothers on the cover of Time. Pretty much every play they run — tying a string to the ball, tossing banana peels at defenders, riding a garbage cart/chariot into the end zone — is wildly illegal. It doesn't matter. Their force of will is so strong, and so crazy, that they can't be denied.
