Freddie Prinze Sr., "Chico and the Man"
Their Standup: Prinze used his languid style to convey the hardships of his "ghetto suburb" background
Why Their Show Worked: "Chico and the Man" was all about the surprising chemistry between its two stars. Oscar winner Jack Albertson (Grandpa Joe from "Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory") was impossibly cantankerous in his role as Ed Brown, the owner of a garage in an East LA barrio, and Prinze was a charming, lighthearted Chicano youth who pesters him for a job.
