Louis C.K., "Louie"
Their Standup: Perhaps no stand-up and their material are more constantly evolving than Louis C.K. and his ever-refreshed routines, which tend to mix the deeply personal and autobiographical storytelling with observational material.
Why Their Show Worked: "Louie" works because it's as pure a realization of the comic's worldview as one could ever imagine. Just as you know you can see Louis C.K. in consecutive years and never hear the same jokes, you can watch "Louie" in consecutive seasons and never know what stories he'll want to tell and how he'll want to tell them. Sometimes he goes for straight humor inspired by his standup material. Sometimes the standup material isn't featured in the show, but it's an extended extrapolation of something that might have just been a punchline in an old confessional. "Louie" is Louis C.K. and that's why it works. Weird, eh?
