Justin Timberlake, “The 20/20 Experience"
Previous number of nominations for Album of the Year: 2
Timberlake’s first album in six years, “The 20/20 Experience” proved that Timberlake was interested in showing his artistic growth as much as his continued commercial appeal. Produced with Timbaland, the songs pushed the 7-minute mark and rambled a little too much for some critics’ taste, but a single like “Mirrors,” which will also be a strong contender for record of the year, reminded everyone that he is today’s consummate artist.
Why a nomination is likely/unlikely: It’s a shoo-in. His two previous solo albums have been nominated and, while sales shouldn’t matter, “The 20/20 Experience” is the top-selling album released in 2013.
