Highlights: After Chris Rock proved a bridge too far, the Academy compromised a little by tapping “The Daily Show” anchor as host: yes, he was also an outsider and also a political animal, but delivered his satire with a genial suaveness that played far more comfortably. And he made one of the classiest gestures in Oscar history when he brought “Once” songwriter Marketa Irglova back on stage to finish her acceptance speech after being ungallantly cut off by the band.
Lowlights: Stewart was smoothly consistent across both his hosting stints, so not many lowlights – though you could argue he had few truly memorable comic set pieces either.
