Alec Baldwin and Steve Martin
Highlights: Baldwin and Martin seemed to land in the right spot for the Oscars, a pairing of classic-ish personas, one of them already a two-time host, qualified for the riling/irreverent jabs, etc. Their monologue killed and whatever that on-going bit with George Clooney was was kind of hilarious.
Lowlights: Okay, some jokes rang flat. "Oh Alec, you should have said 'spoiler alert.'" And hiring the duo seemed a somewhat unfair plug for Universal's "It's Complicated," starring Baldwin, Martin and nominated actress Meryl Streep (who got plenty of attention in the monologue).
