We size up every Oscar host of the new century
Neil Patrick Harris
Highlights: An NPH-hosted Oscars was a dream for many as his dazzling stints on the Emmys and the Tonys were so memorable. And he did delight with an inspired and inspiring opening song-and-dance number that made perfect use of his best faculties.
Lowlights: Sadly it was all downhill from there. With late night-level jokes from a truly uninspired writers room (too many of which focused on perceived Oscar "snubs") and dead weight delivery from Harris, the whole show seemed to collapse around him. It wasn't totally his fault, but he didn't really transcend either.
