From 'The Avengers' to 'E.T.' - 20 Reasons to own a Blu-ray player in Fall 2012
For a format that's supposedly on the way out, Blu-ray's looking pretty good
"Star Trek: The Next Generation - Season One"
Looking at the TV landscape now, it might be hard to remember just what a risk this was when it premiered, or how unusual it seemed for Paramount to skip network airplay entirely. Beyond that, no one had been able to prove at that point that there was an audience for a "Star Trek" that didn't feature the classic cast. Hell, at that point, there was barely an audience for that cast. Spinning off a whole new show and trying to rebuild the entire world seemed like a huge gamble, and everything, from how the show was produced to where it aired, was seemingly made up on the fly. I'm curious to see how these look when given the ultimate buff-and-shine job, considering how glorious the Blu-ray release of the original series was a few years ago. The bar's been set high, but it sounds like they're working overtime to pack this one with extra features that will make it worthwhile for even the hardest of hardcore fans.
