12. John Hughes/Molly Ringwald
Notable Collaborations: "16 Candles," "The Breakfast Club"
What makes them special: So far, John Hughes rules supreme at making teenagers feel like a filmmaker understands exactly who they are, and the most remarkable part of that is that his leads are young women. It would have been so easy for Hughes to have written all of his movies from the POV of the Anthony Michael Hall characters, but he gave voice to teenage girls in a way that almost no one else has, and Ringwald was perfect to bring those roles to life. Smart, funny, and honest… that's why the roles he wrote for Ringwald still resonate today.
