Film she went "bad" for: "Grease"
Why it was shocking: This is a meta choice, but Olivia Newton-John's transformation in "Grease" embodies the pleasures and liberating possibilities of the good-girl-gone-bad. Sure, we liked the "Look at me, I'm Sandra Dee/ Lousy with virginity" purity of Newton-Jones' pony-tailed Sandra, but when she lets loose in leather and smoking a cigarette in "You're The One That I Want," she isn't just changing for Danny, she's changing for all of us. When his jaw drops, our jaw drops. When he's got multiplying chills, we're losing control. You know why? The power that she's supplying is electrifying. There's a reason that the "Grease" posters feature Bad Girl Sandy. She's the one that we want. Oooh. Oooh. Oooh.
