Film she went 'bad' for: "Sleeping Beauty"
Why it was shocking: Browning seemed to jump from little girl to young woman in about a year, and the transition was made more unnerving by just how petite a woman she is. She seemed unusually mature when she was in her early teens, and now seems unusually young in her twenties. It's a combination that would make most heterosexual men feel both confused and most likely wrong, and then 'Sleeping Beauty' is so pervy and deranged in its attitudes towards sex that it just exponentially magnifies the sense of wrong. The good news for Browning is that it worked, and she seems to be finally getting roles playing grown-ups, exactly the point of shaking things up.
