'Cannibal Holocaust' (1980)
Ruggero Deodato pioneered the "found footage" genre with this ultra-gory horror flick, in which an anthropologist discovers the film cans of a missing documentary crew who ventured into the Amazon rainforest to document a tribe of cannibals. The violence depicted was so convincing that Deodato was arrested and charged with murder following the film's premiere; though he was subsequently cleared of those accusations, it was later banned in several countries and remains so in New Zealand to this day.
