Best Documentary Feature: "20 Feet From Stardom"
This crowd-pleaser from the 2013 Sundance Film Festival is still one of my favorite movies of the year. Focusing on the often unheralded backup singers that helped shape pop music and rock and roll over the past 50 years, "20 Feet From Stardom" is the rare documentary that is informative, moving and entertaining all at the same time. More importantly, it demonstrates how American voices have dominated global music during this same period. It would be a shocker not to see the film make the final five in the Best Documentary Feature category come January, but it will be more disappointing if more moviegoers don't discover it.
