Best Cinematography: "Side Effects"
I came around to Steven Soderbergh's "Side Effects" late in the game, an HD rental via iTunes earlier this month. It's a well-wrought thriller and Jude Law's performance was particularly impressive, but the most noteworthy element to my eye was Soderbergh's digital photography. His "Peter Andrews" pseudonym has, of course, never received any love from the cinematographers branch, and digital still faces uphill climbs, but my jaw was on the ground at a number of the sleek compositions he whipped up here. A New York night time shot in particular hit me so hard I had to rewind the movie for another glimpse. This might be the peak of his dabbling with digital thus far and it's absolutely exquisite.
