'Breaking Bad' (AMC)
The moment: Skyler pulls a knife, Walt steals a baby (from "Ozymandias")
It's the best, most harrowing sequence in the best, most harrowing episode of television all year (and one of the best of all-time). After witnessing the murder of his brother-in-law Hank, and the theft of 8/9ths of his meth fortune, Walter White comes home to lay claim to all he really has left: his wife and kids. But Skyler is having none of it, and (after briefly contemplating another futile call to the authorities) grabs a carving knife and stands between her son and his monstrous father, ordering Walt to get out. The fight that follows is sloppy and ugly and completely dismaying, and ends with Walter Jr. and Skyler looking at Walt with abject terror as he screams, "WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU?!?! WE'RE A FAMILY!" It is the moment "Breaking Bad" has spent five seasons building towards, and the shift from screamed indignation to whispered resignation as Walt repeats, "We're a family" is the tragic climax to all of Walt's bogus rationalizations about why he did the things he did. And because the episode hasn't put us through the ringer enough already, Walt decides to snatch baby Holly from her playpen and drives away with her while a distraught, broken Skyler kneels in the street and wails.
Other memorable "Breaking Bad" moments: Jesse storms into Saul's office, Hank arrests Walt, the Nazis kill Hank, Walt has one final encounter with Skyler and Holly
