"Buffy the Vampire Slayer"
Anya (Emma Caulfield)
First introduced: Season 3, episode 9
Replaced: Functionally replaced Cordelia, though not entirely
This is a cheat because Anya was introduced in Season 3, but Emmy Caulfield's vengeance demon only became an integral part of "Buffy" in Season 4 and only became a cast regular in Season 5. The character's mixture of demonic awkwardness and human frailty -- her fear of bunnies is, of course, the stuff of "Buffy" legend -- helped her win Xander's heart and the hearts of many a fan. I've always maintained that Anya was the stealth MVP of the devastating "The Body," while her wounded pride added to the discomfort and emotional tumult of the final season. Amber Benson's Tara might have been a less cheat-y inclusion in this gallery and if you'd prefer her, that's fine. If you prefer Riley? That's not fine.
