10 Least Bad New Shows of 2011

10 Least Bad New Shows of 2011

HitFix started doing letter grades earlier this summer and there isn't a single new show that's going to get a grade anywhere in the A-range this fall.

It's just that kind of fall.

Cobbling together my list of The Fall's 10 Worst New Shows was fairly easy and there were five or six pilots that were right on the cusp for the No. 10 position. Cobbling together my list of The Fall's 10 Best New Shows is a different kettle of fish entirely. I thought about stretching the gallery to include Showtime's "Homeland" in the top spot, but once I open that door, I'd have to take the time to watch "Boss" and a few other cable fall premieres that I haven't had time for and... yeah. Better to keep things consistent.

As it stands, my Top 10 list contains a couple B+ shows, a couple B shows and a bunch of B- offerings, which isn't all that impressive. And I don't know if there's a single show I'm recommending without caveats.

Yup. It's just that kind of fall. [Things are better at midseason, where "Awake," "Smash," "The River" and "Apartment 23" all would have easily made this list.]

I can't handle this. I keep hearing from some that Pan Am is boring to the point that Playboy Club is better by the sheer fact of having intrigue shoehorned in from that "organized crime" angle.

And yet in other parts, they say there's intrigue aplenty here, and more immersive atmosphere to boot.

(oh, what does it matter, I'm actually immune to [most of] the "charms" of Mad Men in the first place...that almost guarantees that anything tagged "Mad Men ripoff", fairly or not, isn't going to snag my interest)

So HOMELAND is making it to the MUST WATCH list??

It had a darn good pilot and can work real well for a season

Wor. I violently disagree with about 90% of this list. These shows are gawd-awful.

this always happens in america; tons of money and time spent on special effects, directors, stars, only to hope we learn to care about the characters, because all we'll see from now on is actors talking in a room...

Write a comment...Playboy Club, I thought, was very good with some potential. 2 Broke Girls looked awful but was actually very funny, as was The New Girl. I LOVE Will Arnett, Arrested Development, Running Wilde etc...but I hated Up All Night - terrible show. Looking forward to Terra Nova and Once Upon A Time.
