HitFix started doing letter grades earlier this summer and there isn't a single new show that's going to get a grade anywhere in the A-range this fall.
It's just that kind of fall.
Cobbling together my list of The Fall's 10 Worst New Shows
was fairly easy and there were five or six pilots that were right on the cusp for the No. 10 position. Cobbling together my list of The Fall's 10 Best New Shows is a different kettle of fish entirely. I thought about stretching the gallery to include Showtime's "Homeland" in the top spot, but once I open that door, I'd have to take the time to watch "Boss" and a few other cable fall premieres that I haven't had time for and... yeah. Better to keep things consistent.
As it stands, my Top 10 list contains a couple B+ shows, a couple B shows and a bunch of B- offerings, which isn't all that impressive. And I don't know if there's a single show I'm recommending without caveats.
Yup. It's just that kind of fall. [Things are better at midseason, where "Awake," "Smash," "The River" and "Apartment 23" all would have easily made this list.]
