Justin Timberlake and Louis C.K. shine as 'New Girl' is snubbed
Winner: The supersized Lead Actress in a Drama category
The Emmys seemed to be on a mission to silence the eternal drumbeat of "there aren't any good roles for women in Hollywood" by stuffing the dramatic lead actress category with a whopping seven nominations. Included in the bunch were a few by-no-means-guranteed but still welcome faces, like Robin Wright in "House of Cards" and Vera Farmiga in "Bates Motel," plus a notable inclusion -- Kerry Washington's nod for "Scandal" is the first for an African-American woman in the category since 1995. While not every performance was exemplary -- Connie Britton has, despite her best efforts, been underutilized in "Nashville -- it was refreshing to see so many notable actresses recognized.
