Cannes Film Festival 2013

Best and Worst of the 2012 Emmy Awards

Best: Ricky Gervais

It's probably the last thing he wants to be known for, but there is something special about Ricky Gervais and awards shows. Not needing either TV or film to propel his career anymore, Gervais has a freedom to really say what he feels when he walks on either the Golden Globe or Emmy stage.  Tonight was no different.  He mocked himself and the audience for likely wishing they were at the Globes instead (open bar in the back people!) and blatantly announced who he wanted to win in the two categories he presented. Was it up to the standards of the bickering insults he'd thrown Steve Carell during previous Emmy shows?  No, but it was a welcome diversion from the shtick Kimmel was boring everyone with the rest of the night.
