Laura Prepon of 'Orange is the New Black'
Nomination Status: Probably the second most-likely "Orange" supporting cast member to get a nod.
In Her Favor: Thanks to "That '70s Show" (and that awful Chelsea Handler NBC sitcom), Laura Prepon was probably the most familiar actress in the "Orange Is The New Black" cast, even more familiar than star Taylor Schilling. Prepon and "That '70s Show" weren't big award magnets, but it was a successful and long-running sitcom and she had a major role on it, so many people were impressed by the change-of-pace from Prepon playing a lesbian drug dealer with black hair. There would be a safety in nominating Prepon, even if I have a terror of "Orange Is The New Black" proving wildly popular with Emmy voters, but only the previously established white stars getting acting nominations.
Working Against Her: If you know "That '70s Show," you appreciated some of the range Prepon was showing, but if you just watched "Orange Is The New Black," Alex had a lot less to do than many or most of her co-stars. Red is the bigger role, which is why I think Mulgrew is more likely to get a nod.
