Noah Emmerich, 'The Americans'
Nomination Status: Emmerich should have been nominated last year, but Emmy voters hadn't discovered "The Americans." Perhaps this will be the year?
In His Favor: There was a lot of soul-searching for Stan Beeman on "The Americans" this season. He was in love, his love was used against him, his wife left him and he was left with an important and difficult choice in the finale. With co-stars Matthew Rhys and Keri Russell getting the wigs and costumes and accents, Emmerich just provides sturdy, lived-in naturalism. The show needs a Stan so that it can have Elizabeth and Phillip. Emmerich gives Rhys and Russell (and Annet Mahendru) license to be as good as they are.
Working Against Him: I'm skeptical that "The Americans" is about to add a ton of nominations after being ignored last year. And even if "The Americans" gets notice, I don't know which actors get the benefits. Emmerich, as The Understate Guy, is probably down the list.
