Jon Voight, 'Ray Donovan'
Nomination Status: Oscar and Golden Globe winner doesn't have an Emmy win. He'll probably at least be in the running.
In His Favor: We assume that the Golden Globe win makes Jon Voight a favorite here, but voting history shows that the HFPA might have a bit more warmth for the "Coming Home" star than other groups. Still, Voight has two previous Emmy nominations and his "Ray Donovan" role is all about accented, scenery-chewing, high-bluster swagger. This is exactly the kind of career-capping role folks like to give awards to and there's no reason to think Academy voters will be immune to all of the ACTING going on.
Working Against Him: Voight's "Ray Donovan" performance high-toned ham and some Emmy voters may prefer to keep kosher. But that's the case with everything in "Ray Donovan." If you buy it, you think it's terrific and you probably figure both Voight and Liev Schreiber should be locks for nominations. If you don't buy it, you probably think that in this Golden Age of drama, there are many performances with just a wee bit more subtlety that could be honored instead.
