Lena Dunham, 'Girls'
Nomination Status: Should be safe for a third straight acting nomination.
In Her Favor: Hannah's OCD and the "One Man's Trash" two-hander probably meant that Lena Dunham had a showier second season of "Girls," but the third season presented her with plenty of terrific opportunities, if only for how Hannah handled situations that, for a different character, would have been Emmy-friendly. I'd point to Hannah's problematic reaction to her editor's sudden death, or to her predictably self-obsessed reaction to the roadtrip to get Jessa from rehab. "Flo," featuring guest star June Squibb, was probably Dunham's most straight-forward potential submission episode, but "Role-Play" probably has more awkward physical comedy to it. With two Emmy acting nods and two Golden Globe acting nods (including a 2013 win), Dunham is probably a lock here.
Working Against Her: Like I said, it was a slightly less showy season for Dunham as an actress and there may be some sense that the "Girls" buzz has faded a tiny bit. But that shouldn't hurt her too much.
