Nomination Status: The season got off to a late start, but the episodes are all eligible and so expect "Louie" to remain strong.
In Its Favor: Odd fact that I'd forgotten: Last year was actually the first Comedy Series nomination for "Louie." The show had earned Louis C.K. a pair of writing nods (and a win in 2012), a pair of acting nominations and a directing nod for "Ducklings," but last year was the first time he was nominated for writing, directing, acting and producing. If anything, "Louie" has taken some of its biggest risks this season and late installments like "In The Woods" seem tailor-made for writing and directing nominations, while you can look to "Model" and "So Did The Fat Lady" for reminders that "Louie" can still be funny when that's what Louis C.K. wants to do. Look at how many individual Emmys Louis C.K. has been nominated for and won in the past few years. That list is insane. Add in Emmy-bait guest performances from folks like Jeremy Renner, Ellen Burstyn and Yvonne Strahovski and this should be another fine year for "Louie."
Working Against It: After nearly three years of unapologetic adoration, "Louie" has faced a bit more eyebrow-raising this spring. There were concerns about "Model." Some people felt "In The Woods" was self-indulgent. And the six-part "Elevator" either worked for you or it didn't. And we're still waiting to see whether The Bad Thing That Happened in "Pamela Part I" has ramifications. No, people haven't turned on "Louie," but maybe audiences aren't fully supplicant either.
