Last Year's Nominees:
Maggie Smith, "Downton Abbey"
Joanne Froggatt, "Downton Abbey"
Christina Hendricks, "Mad Men"
Christine Baranski, "The Good Wife"
Archie Panjabi, "The Good Wife"
Anna Gunn, "Breaking Bad"
Attrition: Zero. While Joanne Froggatt's "Downton Abbey" paramour Brendan Coyle wasn't submitted this year, Froggatt remains, along with indomitable co-star Maggie Smith, the pair of "Good Wife" co-stars, Christina Hendricks and Anna Gunn. This category isn't quite as competitive as the Supporting Actor in a Drama category and there are fewer new additions coming in to shake things up, but that doesn't mean that it's a category that doesn't need shaking up. There are some tremendous supporting actresses who are likely to miss out if Emmy voters decide to stay on autopilot. Froggatt is almost certainly the nominee most likely to get squeezed out, but Emmy complacency when it comes to Baranski is a bit baffling.
