Can Sofia Vergara or Betty White dethrone Julie Bowen?
Jenna Fischer of 'The Office'
Jenna Fischer, "The Office"
Nomination Status: Can she break back into the field after six years away?
In Her Favor: This is just a hunch, putting Jenna Fischer this high in the gallery. And it's probably wrong. Emmy voters never loved Pam as much as they probably should have. The character was an essential piece in grounding the outlandish antics of the Dwights and the Michaels and the Jim-Pam relationship was always the show's heart. Somehow, though, Fischer earned her lone nomination in 2007, while John Krasinski was never nominated. That's bizarre. And both actors were at their very best in the show's final season. I'm going to pretend that Brian nonsense never happened and that Jim and Pam just had a totally natural and uncontrived bump in their marital road, a bump that gave both actors plenty of opportunities to do emotional work amidst the funny. Either of the show's concluding episodes would be a great Emmy showcase for Fischer and it's not a coincidence she got the last line in the finale. She would certainly make my Top 6 and she would possible be at the top of my list.
Working Against Her: See above. One nomination in the long run of a show as admired as "The Office" is an indication of only a limited amount of awards support. The big question will be whether or not Emmy voters are looking for ways to honor "The Office." If so, Fischer, Krasinski and Rainn Wilson all deserve long looks.
