Can Sofia Vergara or Betty White dethrone Julie Bowen?
Elisha Cuthbert of 'Happy Endings'
Elisha Cuthbert, "Happy Endings"
Nomination Status: No chance. Come on.
In Her Favor: I mentioned Carly Chaikin impossibly high dialogue-to-laughs ration, but Elisha Cuthbert is one of the few actors who can compete. Coming into "Happy Endings," we knew Casey Wilson was funny and "Scrubs" viewers knew Eliza Coupe was funny, but even fans of "The Girl Next Door" wouldn't have told you that Cuthbert was capable of not just being hilarious, but of improving already-solid material through her performance. After all, you can write "Alex eats ribs," but it isn't funny until Cuthbert does it or you can write "Alex gets down with Hip-Hop Santa" and it might be funny, but it isn't brilliant until Cuthbert does it.
Working Against Her: The late, lamented "Happy Endings" never attracted Emmy attention before and it probably won't start to now that it is no longer an active series. It doesn't help Cuthbert that Wilson and Coupe also would have been completely worthy of this slide.
